Hunter Jones, dancer


Hunter Jones is excited to be performing with Cerca Trova! She has been dancing since the age of three at her mother’s studio Rhythm Alley in Perkins, Oklahoma. Hunter danced competitively as well as travelled to New York and Los Angeles to work under various artists. Upon graduating high school, she accepted a scholarship from Wichita State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2018 with a BFA in dance performance and an emphasis in modern dance. While at WSU, Hunter had the privilege of working under the instructions of Cheyla Clawson Chandler, Nick Johnson, Sabrina Vasquez, Regina Klenjoski, and Denise Celestine training in various styles of modern, improvisation, ballet, jazz, and mime. During her time at WSU, Hunter worked with various guest artists including Darrell Grand Moultrie, Nathan Trice, and Charlotte Boye-Christensen. She had the opportunity to tour to Mexico with the dance department twice. Hunter also assisted Cheyla Clawson Chandler in a residency at the University of Colima in Mexico. She was also asked to perform with Cheyla Clawson Chandler’s project-based company Clawson Dances and Nick Johnson’s Alithea Mime. During her summers, Hunter attended various intensives such as Salt Dance Fest, Tulsa’s Summer Heat workshop, and Salt Contemporary Dance’s Linked intensive. While at these intensives she worked with various artists including Brian Brooks, Katie Scherman, Idan Sharabi, Joanna Kotze, Eldon Johnson, and Monica Campbell. Hunter has also attended the American Dance Festival on scholarship twice, and once had the opportunity to perform in a piece choreographed by Charles O. Anderson. Hunter Jones has attended ACDA twice, once as an understudy for Cheyla Clawson Chandler’s duet “No Such Symbiosis” which was accepted to the Kennedy Center, and the second year as the choreographer of a piece titled “WE” and as a performer in student choreographer Martha Easton’s duet “Heir”. Hunter is also a company member of City in Motion dance Theater.
