Irene Vallar, dancer


Irene began her studies in ballet, jazz, tap, and modern dance in San Diego, CA. She continued her modern dance training at the University of California, Berkeley while also obtaining a degree in metabolic biology. During her undergraduate studies, Irene performed in works by notable San Francisco choreographers including Joe Goode of Joe Goode Performance Group, Katie Faulkner of Little Seismic Dance Company, and Lisa Wymore of Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts. While pursuing her graduate studies in Arizona, Irene was a member of Dulce Dance Company, founded by Candy Jimenez and Liliana Gomez. After earning her Master’s degree, Irene returned to California and participated in several arts festivals including San Diego Fringe and San Diego Trolley Dances, performing works by Anne Gehman and Kyle Sorensen. She was also a member of Dorn Dance Company in Los Angeles, CA, performing several modern-contemporary works by Rande Dorn including an evening-length piece titled, “The Colored Room." Irene works as an occupational therapist in physical disabilities rehabilitation and also enjoys practicing Ashtanga-based yoga.
